Vehicle Assessment & Processing
We buy used, faulty, salvage and scrap vehicles — so what happens after collection depends on the type of quote you accepted. Scrap vehicles are processed at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), a site licensed by the Environment Agency to depollute and dismantle end-of-life vehicles responsibly. Used or salvage vehicles may be repaired, broken for parts, or resold rather than scrapped.
Certificate of Destruction (CoD)
A Certificate of Destruction is only issued for scrap quotes, where the vehicle is processed at an ATF and taken permanently off the road. If you accepted a salvage or used vehicle quote, no CoD is issued — the car may be repaired or resold, so legal responsibility transfers through the normal used vehicle sale process instead.
Notifying the DVLA and your V5C
When your car is scrapped, the DVLA must be informed. We handle the notification process as part of the collection, but you should also complete the relevant section of your V5C logbook (the green slip at the back) and post it to the DVLA yourself to confirm the sale. If you have already cancelled your road tax, the DVLA will automatically issue a refund for any full calendar months remaining on your tax — this is paid directly to you by cheque or bank transfer. You do not need to apply separately.
Your road tax refund
If your vehicle has unexpired road tax at the time of scrapping, the DVLA will automatically cancel it and refund the remaining full months to you. The refund is calculated from the first day of the month after the DVLA receives notification. You do not need to do anything extra — the refund is triggered automatically once the scrapping is confirmed. This is separate from the cash payment you receive from us for the vehicle itself.

Do you accept non-running or damaged cars?

It depends on the type of quote. If you accept a scrap quote, your vehicle will be processed at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) and you will receive a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) — your legal proof that the vehicle has been properly disposed of. If you accept a salvage or used vehicle quote, no CoD is issued because the car is being sold as a used vehicle and may be repaired or resold rather than scrapped.
Can I scrap a car on SORN or with no MOT?
Absolutely. A car does not need a valid MOT or road tax to be scrapped. If your vehicle is declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification), that is perfectly fine — we collect SORN vehicles and non-runners regularly. Just let us know the condition when you request your quote so we can send the right vehicle.
What documents do I need?
Ideally you will need your V5C logbook, a valid form of photo ID (driving licence or passport), and proof of address. If you do not have the V5C, we can still help in most cases. Having your vehicle registration number to hand when you call or fill in the form will speed things up considerably.
